BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU
At Nino Schembri Academy we focus our training on traditional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with the gi, which allows the practitioner to grab the opponent’s clothes/kimono (gi). This martial art and combat sport was formed from Japanese systems Kodokan judo and jujutsu, (both emphasizing ground fighting) and innovated by Brazilian masters Carlos and Hélio Gracie, brothers who created the world known Brazilian Jiu-Jistu school.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is founded on the concept that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend oneself against a bigger, stronger and even armed opponent. So everyone can practice it! At Nino Schembri we have separated our program for kids, beginners, and more advanced practitioners, so you can take the best of your class. See our class schedule for more info.
Our instructors strive to teach your children more than just martial arts, but also the life skills needed to succeed in life. The Nino Schembri Jiu-Jitsu for Kids Program highlights important values such as respect, focus, confidence, patience, team work and perseverance, and is a fundamental tool for kids who need to learn how to handle a bully situation.
The Nino Schembri Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy is dedicated to providing Jiu-Jitsu classes for both women and men. The Thailand’s national form of combat uses stand-up striking along with various clinching techniques, a very dynamic boxing practice. Nino Schembri Academy’s highly trained instructors can coach you for fitness or MMA competition goals, in a safe and productive Muay Thai experience.
No Gi is grappling without the traditional uniform, the kimono. Instead, the practitioners wear shorts and a rash guard. One cannot grab opponent’s clothes. Our No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu (no kimono) class is held on Friday evenings and mixed martial arts training can be arranged by scheduling private lessons
The practice of yoga is largely known for developing physical strength, focus, flexibility and balance, bringing to its practitioners a sense of inner peace and a strong, flexible body. At Nino Schembri – Kyoga Studio we believe that those qualities have potential to affect positively your performance in BJJ, in daily routine and in life.
